Lake Tahoe Monkey Rock Hike

Here’s the story of me exploring the Lake Tahoe Monkey Rock Hike.

The Journey

One morning that I had off from work I ventured out to Lake Tahoe and try to find this Monkey Rock that I kept hearing about. I started this adventure around 6 AM and headed towards the twisty roads leading to Lake Tahoe. I was honestly worried about parking because I knew it gets pretty crowded so I made sure to leave early. Even after getting lost for a bit, I was the first car pulling up to the lot. Backpack on and water in hand, I was off.

It’s a climb to get to the trail head so that’s a mini warm up right there. Right off of that is a gorgeous look out to the lake. If I’m being honest, you could stop there and just relax but I kept going. Being the only one on the trail, it was both serene and a little off putting. Nonetheless it was a wonderful time and the views were worth all the feelings.

Not knowing where I was going, I took a wrong turn on the trail. Luckily I found a bench and sat down while staring out at the water. I ventured back and was determined to find the rock after resting for a bit. I knew that there was a “hard” way and an “easier” way. Let me tell you, the easy way wasn’t a walk in the park – it was a bit steep but still manageable.

The Arrival

After walking and taking in the sights I knew I was getting closer to the rock. I watched a YouTube Video on how to get there which was a huge help. While walking, I kept playing it back and finally saw the turn off. I had made it! The views were outstanding! Some of the best I’d ever seen. I found the Monkey Rock and gosh it sure does look like a monkey. After finding a nice rock to sit on, I unpacked some snacks and a book. I would highly recommend this hike to anyone.
